đź©° Open Level Ballet Class Winter 2023

In this level, you are familiar with ballet positions, the most common general class steps and terminology. In the centre you are able to do some basic turns and various jumps. This 2 hour long class includes a ballet-focused warm up and a 10 minute stretch at the end.

Support Staff:

I am thrilled to welcome the wonderful Marel Eager to be my support teacher for this class. At times when we might run two versions of centre exercises, one for the more advanced, and one for the beginner 3 level, Marel will focus on the later.

When needed, the centre exercises will be adapted to suit the higher as well as the lower levels, so all students are working to their own potential as best as possible.

Rest assured you will find a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere were camaraderie is felt and students support each other. This class is for adults, therefore your level of participation, potential physical limitations due to injury or lack of regular practise will be respected so that you can get what you are looking for from the class.

Here are a few tips to make the best out of your dance experience.

  • Ask for help in class: If you would like more repetition or clarification on a step, or if the combination is too hard for you, let your teacher know.

  • Muscle memory through repetition, building strength and flexibility are key to develop your ballet technique, specially the feet need A LOT of strength. Finding 10 minutes a day to do some releves, flex and point your toes exercises, and practise a few sets of simple tendus will help more than you can imagine.

  • Focus on your own progress. While it is good and healthy to push ourselves and be a little competitive in class, it is important to remember that you all come from different backgrounds and circumstances. Specially when there is a new step we can't seem to master but others can, it can make us feel insecure and then our concentration goes and that only makes things worse. When this happens, and this often happens in a dance class, keep in mind that this person might have extra time to practise, or have been dancing for much longer than you, or have special talent for picking up choreography, or be born with the perfect ballet legs, you name it. Remember ballet takes time and remember you are taking ballet because you enjoy it and you are naturally there to enjoy yourself and practise an art form you love, therefore there is no "good and bad" students. Be kind to yourself and cherish your own progress and dedication.

  • Commit to attend regularly: bad weather, stress and being tired will make it hard at times to get going, but once you are there, I promise you won't regret it! If you do have to miss class, please notify the teacher.

Beautiful class! Nice that you simplified the choreography so that we can focus on technique. I have become more motivated to practice between classes.
