Bulerias Summer Intensive
August 21-23, 7.30-8.30pm at Halifax Dance
The bulerias are a festive flamenco form and arguably the most fun one to dance, clap along and sing to. They are so to speak the late night “kitchen party” music and dance in flamenco. Upbeat and playful, the bulerias are as much about playing palmas and shouting jaleos while building momentum for others to dance as it is about dancing yourself. In this course we will learn a “patá” por bulerias, a simple dance sequence (multilevel) that will contain the components of a short bulerias dance. We will also work on the compás (the clapping and groove) and learn some of the lyrics in the verse we will learn, to better understand the form as a whole.
The Bulerias are danced primarily in three ways:
- as a fiesta por bulerías or Fin de Fiesta por Bulerias - usually done as a show finale as in the video below or encore or as a jam session in an informal setting
- At the end of a flamenco dance or musical piece (palo) , for example at the end of a Solea or at the end of Alegrias
- ass a solo with various “falsetas” guitar melodies and singing blocks
